Q : What is UMass Lowell GSSP?
A : The UMass Lowell Undergraduate Global Student Success Program (GSSP) is equivalent to the first year of a bachelor’s degree program. When you successfully complete the GSSP, you will move directly into the second year of your undergraduate degree program. No SAT/ACT is needed to apply.
The UMass Lowell Graduate Global Student Success Program (GSSP) is a two-semester program designed for students who have completed a bachelor’s degree, but need additional academic and/or English support to gain entry to a master’s degree program. Upon successful completion of the program, you will earn credits toward your graduate degree program. No GRE/GMAT is needed to apply.
Q: Where is the UMass Lowell GSSP located?
A : The UMass Lowell Global Student Success Program is located on the UMass Lowell campus, in the historic city of Lowell, Massachusetts. 30 minutes from the heart of historical Boston, beaches and ski country, the Lowell campus spans more than 125 acres along the Merrimack River. You'll have access to state-of-the-art university facilities and services including libraries, computer laboratories, recreation facilities, on-campus accommodation, health and career services.
Q: Since UMass Lowell GSSP is located on UMass Lowell campuses, can UMass Lowell GSSP students use the campus facilities and services?
A : Absolutely. All international and domestic UMass Lowell students are able to use all services and facilities at UMass Lowell including the library and recreation center. You are also able to join UMass Lowell student clubs and associations.
Q: What is the advantage of through the UMass Lowell GSSP?
A : The advantages for students are many. First, UMass Lowell GSSP classes are much smaller than university ones allowing for more personal attention to students from instructors. Also, UMass Lowell GSSP classes are a combination of both lecture and hands-on activities which allows students to fully engage themselves in the university class atmosphere. As a result of the personalized attention. UMass Lowell GSSP students study for three semesters instead of two in order to make their transition into the American education system as easy as possible.
Q: What if I need help with my studies while I am at UMass Lowell?
A : We encourage students to contact their professor, to explore the many avenues of help and support. All students have the opportunity to improve their academic performance by reinforcing classroom instruction with one-on-one and small group tutorial sessions. Established tutoring services on-campus provide peer-guided assistance for an extensive range of courses in all UMass Lowell majors. All UMass Lowell peer tutors have completed the course(s) they tutor with a grade of A/B or better, and are recommended by faculty members. This is a free service for students.
About the classes
Q: How are classes taught?
A : All classes are four hours duration. The first two hours consists of a lecture and the final two hours are allocated to tutorials, workshops and/or computer laboratory sessions. There is some variation in this structure according to the nature of the individual units and specific requirements.
Q: What is the maximum number of courses that I can study each semester?
A : Four courses is the maximum for any student in any one semester.
Q: How many intake dates are there each year?
A : There are three intakes per year - August, January and May.

A : Yes, it is compulsory for all international students to have health care insurance from the university.
Q: What happens at orientation and do I need to attend?
A : Yes, you must attend orientation as this is the day you will enroll in your courses meet key staff members of UMass Lowell GSSP and will be informed about the many services available to you as a UMass Lowell student. It is also a great opportunity to meet future friends in your mentor guided groups.
